Jared Rusten creates modern rocking chairs and other furniture pieces in his California design studio. With a reverence for woodworking tradition, an ache for novelty, and an obsession with details and finishes, Jared continues the legacy of the West Coast studio craft movement. Making sublimely crafted and undeniably comfortable rocking chairs has become his most consuming creative work.

J. Rusten Studio was founded in 2002, and has produced hundreds of original pieces for residential and institutional/commercial collectors, such as Google, Vans, GitHub, and Levi’s. Signature J. Rusten Studio designs have also been exhibited at numerous venues, including the Harvard Graduate School of Design, San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design, International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Pasadena Contemporary Art Museum, and have been featured in many digital/print publications like The New York Times and Sunset Magazine.

From 2002–2010, the studio was located in Los Angeles, San Jose, Brooklyn, Oakland, and then San Francisco. In 2016, the studio moved from San Francisco to Stockton, CA, where Jared and his wife, Emily, purchased a 100-year-old warehouse in the historic downtown.

In 2022, Jared and Emily opened a small design/sales space in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City to better connect with East Coast-based clients and partners.
